Biomass pellets have become the main fuel in many countries

The world biomass fuel pellet industry has grown significantly over the past few years. Biomass fuel pellets have become the main fuel in many countries. The biggest boom in pellet consumption has occurred in European countries, linked to their expanded state subsidies and new climate targets.

European Biomass Fuel Pellets Market:

The pellet industry around the world has grown massively since 2000. According to the data, it was announced during the 2015 European Pellet Conference that the world consumed about 1.7 million tons of biomass fuel pellets in 2000, and consumed 24.5 million tons in 2013. In 2014 it reached 27 million tons. In 2015, it produced 28 million tons. This figure includes 15 million tons of pellets for heating and 13 million tons for combustion in power plants.

Furthermore, the most dramatic growth was in the European Union. Recent data show that in 2014 European countries accounted for a 50% share of global pellet production. In other words, 13.5 million tons of the world's 27 million tons of biomass fuel particles are produced in European countries.

The main producer of pellets in Europe is Germany. It is estimated that in 2014 about 2.1 million tons were produced by this country. Germany leads other European countries such as Sweden, Latvia and Austria. They produced 1.6 million, 1.3 million and 948,000 tons respectively during the same period.

These four pellet production leaders, along with other European countries, contributed to a 35% pellet industry growth between 2010-2014. The fastest growth was between 2013-2014: biomass fuel pellet production increased by 11%.

Growth in consumption of biomass fuel pellets:

European countries mainly use biomass fuel pellets for domestic heating and power plants. In this case, the UK remains the main pellet consumer. First, it is related to government policies, which include subsidies and support for biomass power plants. This is why some coal-fired power plants have been converted to biomass power plants.

The countries following the UK are Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. Most of the biomass fuel pellets in Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK are used for electricity in power stations. Meanwhile, pellets used in Italy and Germany are largely used for heating. Pellets are becoming more popular in these countries because their governments impose high taxes on gas, oil and coal. Overall, the European Union accounts for approximately 80% of global pellet consumption.

The second largest biomass fuel pellet consumption region is North America. It accounts for 11% of global biomass consumption. The United States is the regional leader. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, pellet consumption growth was estimated at 14% in 2014, which is more than double the rate in the U.S. five years earlier.

The consumption of biomass fuel pellets in Asian countries is also growing rapidly, and Japan and South Korea are the main purchasers of biomass fuel pellets. For example, South Korea consumed only 200,000 tons of biomass in 2012, but it increased to 1.9 million tons in 2014. However, imports of pellets dropped significantly in 2015, with consumption at only 126,000 tons.

Major Exporters of Biomass Fuel Pellets:

Rising demand for biomass fuel pellets across the world has spurred trade growth. The United States and Canada are currently the largest exporters of pellets in the world. Data show that in 2013 the United States exported 2.77 million metric tons of biomass fuel pellets to the EU. Exports were estimated at $347 million. The USDA also announced that the cost of shipments by 2020 is expected to reach $1 billion. Not far behind, Canada is also on the rise. British Columbia is Canada's main producer of biomass fuel pellets. Canadian exports in 2013 were more than double what they were in 2011. In the first half of 2015, this figure increased by 1% compared to the previous year to around 780,000 tonnes due to shipments from the UK. At the same time, shipments to Italy and Asian countries have decreased significantly.

To sum up, the global biomass fuel pellets market has been growing rapidly over the past few years. Currently, North America is the world leader in this industry. What's more, it is expected that new major exporters of biomass fuel pellets will emerge soon. The European Union is the world's largest consumer of biomass. It is linked to its national policies, which include subsidies for the pellet industry, high taxes on fossil fuels and new climate targets. Pellet exports are also increasing due to growing demand. In particular, the escalation of the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine in the past two years has exacerbated the global energy crisis, and six countries in Europe have been cut off from Russia's natural gas supply. Earlier, because Latvia refused to purchase natural gas according to the "ruble settlement order", six countries, Poland, Bulgaria, Finland, the Netherlands and Denmark, were successively cut off from Russia's natural gas supply. In fact, the current situation in Europe is very embarrassing. On the one hand, it is now a critical moment for Europe to reserve natural gas for winter, but so far, the minimum gas storage target of 80% has not been reached; Resolute sanctions on Russian energy. "Dig yourself and jump yourself", in order to "save face", the EU encourages citizens to replace natural gas with domestic production or import of biomass pellet fuel to cope with the cold winter. European consumers have increased the production or import of biomass pellet fuel. They will import pellet production lines from China, which can meet the functions of crushing, crushing, drying, pelletizing, metering, packaging, and output. The measuring and packaging production lines we recommend are as follows, which are cost-effective and worthy of the trust of European and American customers.
